472 THE ADVOCATE
VOL. 78 PART 3 MAY 2020
Thomas S. Woods retired as a judge of the Provincial Court of British
Columbia on September 10, 2019 after sitting for 12 years in that capacity.
On February 19, 2020, Mr. Woods was appointed a trustee of the Ottawabased
Canadian Foundation for Legal Research (the “Foundation”), filling a
vacancy created by the death of the late, and much missed, Paul Fraser,
Q.C. The Foundation supports research that enhances the practice of law in
Canada by exploring emerging trends and issues. The research it funds furnishes
lawyers, judges and legal professionals with evidence generated by
Canada’s thought leaders in the profession. Each year the Foundation provides
funding for research grants and honours scholarly excellence through
the awarding of its prestigious Walter Owen Book Prize.
During his retirement, Mr. Woods will also continue to serve as editor-inchief
of the Commonwealth Judicial Journal, a publication of the Londonbased
Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Association.
The website of the Montreal law firm Trudel Johnston & Lespérance says
of one of its litigators: “An idealist like Don Quixote, he has always had the
instinct to defend those who need it. Unlike Don Quixote and fortunately
for us, he knows how to win his cases, regardless of the area of law.”
“Mrs. Thomas of this church would like to thank all those members who so
kindly assisted in the death of her husband”—church bulletin.
Celeste Ann Haldane, Q.C., was reappointed as Chief Commissioner of the
British Columbia Treaty Commission for a term of three years.
If able to proceed with its performance as scheduled in June, Alberta Ballet
School “will be interpreting Don Quixote in a condensed, non-linear fashion
it is calling Divertissements”.
Wendy L. Everson continues her appointment to the board of directors of
the Victoria Airport Authority as a nominee for the Town of Sidney. She is
in her sixth year of an eight-year term appointment with the Authority. She
was also recently appointed as a director of the Victoria Hospitals Foundation
for a six-year term.
“WANTED: Reins for our baby boy. Hi! I’m looking for some reins which I
could use on my baby boy now that he is walking around. Does anyone
have any that are suitable for a boy that they no longer want?”—advertisement
