acidity for which Chenin Blanc is famous, especially in its racy dry versions.
A pale straw colour, the nose is of bright citrus, mainly lemon-lime with a
bit of tropical, floral notes, and stone fruit (white peach). The palate displays
the same citrus along with white grapefruit and tart green apple. It
has a long, tart finish. It is crisp from the word “go”. It is made for Asian or
Indian food. While available at private wine stores, your best bet right now
is to order it online from the winery.
CHÂTEAU DE LA RIVIÈRE GRAND VIN DE BORDEAUX 2015
AOC Fronsac, Bordeaux, France #213954 $49.99
My wife and I spent several hours last June exploring this beautiful chateau
overlooking the Dordogne Valley in Fronsac, along with its incredible 25 km
maze of wine caves. This is a wine for which only a traditional cork will
work, as it has good aging capacity. It is eighty-four per cent Merlot, eight
per cent Cabernet Franc, six per cent Cabernet Sauvignon, two per cent
Malbec and was winner of a gold medal (médaille d’or) at the Paris Concours
Général Agricol in 2017. The vinification happens in wooden and stainless
steel conical tanks. The wine then ages a total of 18 months in a mix of new
and older barrels.
