Al’s legal career has been marked by a steadfast dedication to solving
clients’ problems in a measured and compassionate but vigorous style. His
exceptional judgment, reliability, wit, skill, intelligence, integrity, decency
and knack for problem solving will ensure that counsel and litigants will get
a fair and balanced hearing and a duly considered result. Al is tailor-made
for his new position, since it is his exceptional judgment in all things personal
and legal that truly sets him apart.
Al is blessed with a beautiful family. His spouse Jackie is a highly
respected obstetrician and their two wonderful children, Owen and Chloe,
are thriving. Al is an exceptionally dedicated father and spouse.
Al is also blessed with a wide circle of admiring friends and colleagues,
which is a testament to his magnetism. We know of no one who has ever
uttered a bad word about Al—a truly remarkable feat after 30 years at the
bar as a litigator. He still lunches regularly with his law school buddies
(class of 1988), all of whom are extremely proud to call him their good
The bench and the bar have been deeply enriched by Al’s appointment.
There is no doubt that he will make a very fine judge.
The Honourable Madam Justice Sheila Tucker
Sheila Tucker was sworn in as a justice of the British
Columbia Supreme Court at New Westminster on
July 2, 2019. Her appointment will be welcomed by
all those who are familiar with her work as a lawyer
and are thus acquainted with, among other things,
the strength and clarity of her intellect and her deep
and pervasive sense of justice.
Sheila was born and raised in Revelstoke, B.C., the youngest of three children.
Her father, Eugene, was a second-generation railwayman, working as
a brakeman and later a conductor for the Canadian Pacific Railway. Her
mother, Daryl, did clerical work for the city and the local school board and
later became an insurance salesperson. Sheila spent her entire childhood
and early teenage years in Revelstoke, studying at the local elementary and
