232 THE ADVOCATE
VOL. 77 PART 2 MARCH 2019
At each of our events this year, we are also going to take time to remind
our attendees about the services available through the Lawyers Assistance
Program, which is an invaluable resource for the profession. We believe that
talking about these issues—and, more specifically, talking about them with
each other—is a step in the right direction.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING RECAP
On November 29, 2018 we held our 76th Annual General Meeting (“AGM”)
and Silent Auction, which was attended by over 400 members, Chief Justice
Bauman, Chief Justice Hinkson and other honoured guests. We are proud
to announce that our silent auction raised over $14,000 for Access Pro Bono
and the Lawyers Assistance Program.
The AGM also saw the expiry of the terms of executive members-at-large
Andrew Crabtree, Daniel Coles, Kaitlyn Meyer and Stephanie Redding. In
addition, it saw the expiry of the terms of Andrew Aguilar and Arash
Amouzgar. We thank them all for their service. We welcomed our new
elected executive members-at-large, Rachel Barsky, Deborah Flood, Jannelle
Mackoff, Jason Newton, Natasha Rana and Roshni Veerapen, and we
look forward to working with them this year.
The VBA’s 2019 officers will be Cheryl D’Sa as president, Andrea Fraser
as vice-president, Nicholas Isaac as past president and Carolyn MacDonald
Gaynor Yeung was awarded the Peter S. Hyndman Mentorship Award at
our AGM. This award is given to an outstanding mentor in the legal profession.
Ms. Yeung is the 11th recipient of this award. The VBA thanks Ms.
Yeung and her family for attending, Sara Li and Ashley Reimer for their
introductions of Ms. Yeung, and the Hyndman family and Hyndman Award
Committee for presenting the award at our AGM.
We also thank our long-time sponsor The Counsel Network, and specifically
Warren Smith and Christina Launay, for all their support of the VBA.
If you know of any members who could benefit from the services that the
VBA is partnering with, please direct them to our website. If you know of
lawyers who are new to the bar and/or to Vancouver, please encourage
them to attend our events. Planning for our traditional events like the
Alpine Team Championship Race, the Devil’s Advocate, the Judges’ Lunch
and the Craft Beer & Spirits Festival, as well as for some new events is
underway, and we are excited for the year ahead.
We hope to see you at all our events to meet old and new friends and to
help us promote collegiality and civility in our bar.
