Difference maker. Inspiring. Creative. Innovative. Caring.
Determined. Cheerful. A friend.
These are but a few of the many descriptors of this month’s
cover subject, Caroline Nevin. After 21 years with the CBABC
(11 years as executive director, five as associate executive director and five
as director of communications and government relations), Caroline left the
CBABC in January 2019 for her next adventure as chief executive officer of
Courthouse Libraries BC.
As the first non-lawyer executive director of the CBABC, Caroline quickly
earned the respect and admiration of lawyers and judges throughout the
province. Working tirelessly with good spirit and humour, she guided members
of the CBABC through the re-imagining of association membership, the
Legal Aid Public Engagement campaign, challenging times of justice
reform, and the evolution of the CBA. She earned her reputation as a valued
and trusted advisor and a respected voice on justice matters. Justice system
partners note that she has shown remarkable leadership in understanding
and bridging the perspectives of the profession with the views of the public
She is also appreciated for her infectious laugh, ready hugs and adventurous,
Caroline will be the first to say that what we may attribute to her is in fact
the result of incredible teams at the CBABC office, her mentors and supporters
and, of course, her family.
