262 THE ADVOCATE
VOL. 77 PART 2 MARCH 2019
British Columbia Court of Appeal
Practice Directive (Civil)
Title: Publication Bans and Sealing Orders
Issued: 4 June 2018
Effective: 11 June 2018
Cite as: Publication Bans and Sealing Orders
(Civil Practice Directive, 4 June 2018)
The Court is often not apprised of the existence of civil and family publication
bans ordered in the court or tribunal below. Accordingly, at the time a
notice of appeal or notice of application for leave to appeal is filed, parties
must advise the Registrar in writing of the existence and nature of and
publication bans in place.
If a party wishes to seek an order sealing material, they must immediately
apply to a justice in chambers upon filing that material. Parties should not
assume that a sealing order made in a court or tribunal below will continue
to apply in the Court of Appeal.
• This is a new practice directive.
