Esther E.J. Sohn can now be found at Miller Thomson’s Vancouver

Angela Wong returns to Turnpenney Milne in Vancouver, having practised
in Toronto for the last four years.
Miller Titerle + Company welcomes a surfeit of people: Merle Alexander
hops over from Merle Alexander Law Corporation, Peter Eirikson joins from
Blakes, Maya Stano moves from Gowlings, Leah George-Wilson comes from
private practice and Emily Savage was with Borden Ladner Gervais.
Liam Bath is now with Hammerberg Lawyers, packing up Liam G. Bath
Law Corporation to do so. Margaret Lovely joins Morrison & Co. Michael
Doherty becomes a staff lawyer with Ecojustice. Brandon Deans, formerly
with McMillan, and Karan Sodhi, once with McQuarrie, both join
On October 30, 2018, Dean Lawton, Q.C., was acclaimed as second vicepresident
of the Law Society commencing on January 1, 2019. He will serve
as the first vice-president in 2020 and then as president in 2021.
Judge Bernard Goodheart, a judge of the court of common pleas in Philadelphia,
officiated over Valentine’s Day weddings from 1977 until his retirement
in 2000. Once he married 30 couples on a single Valentine’s Day (his
record), but he later restrained it to 24 per year, by reservation.
By 2014 another Pennsylvania judge, District Judge Kathleen Valentine, had
officiated in over 1,000 weddings, including regularly on Valentine’s Day.
Much has occurred in the last few months at the B.C. Supreme Court. We
welcome reports of wedding activities as well, but in the meantime … Justice
Linda Loo retired from the court on September 30, 2018. Justice Keith
Bracken followed suit on October 28, 2018. Justice Barbara Young transferred
from Vancouver to sit in Victoria effective November 1, 2018. Justice
Marguerite Church moved south from Prince George to sit in Williams
Lake effective September 17, 2018. Justice Veronica Jackson was
appointed to the court in Vancouver effective October 4, 2018. Justice
Steven Wilson was appointed to the court in Kelowna effective October 17,
2018. Lastly, on November 26, 2018, Stuart Cameron was appointed a master
of the court. He was appointed a district registrar in 2011 and registrar
in 2014. He will sit in Vancouver.
