As the British Columbia Law Institute (“BCLI”) heads into the fall of 2018,
we look forward to releasing a number of consultation papers and final
reports and announcing new projects. In this update we review the projects
we are currently working on, say goodbye to a few members of our board
and welcome several new members.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS ACT REFORM CONSULTATION
On June 18, 2018, BCLI released its consultation paper on reform of the
Employment Standards Act. The consultation period closed on August 31,
2018, and we received many thoughtful submissions in writing and online.
Thank you to all who responded and to those major stakeholder organizations
who canvassed their members over the summer as they worked to
prepare their written submissions. The committee is looking forward to
reviewing the submissions and online feedback when it meets this fall to
consider comments, finalize the committee’s recommendations and
approve the final report. Final publication is expected to take place later
this year or in early 2019. For more information, see the July issue of the

UPCOMING STRATA PROPERTY CONSULTATIONS
Two new consultations for phase two of the Strata Property Project are
planned for the fall.
The first will tackle insurance issues for stratas. The consultation paper
will ask the public for its views on tentative recommendations that are
