of common sense.” Chief Justice—Bev, my dear friend—I can confirm,
on behalf of the entire nation, including everyone here tonight, that
you have succeeded magnificently. You have been a faithful sentinel of the
rule of law for the people of this country. You have brought great honour to
your home provinces of British Columbia and Alberta and all Canadians are
in your debt. We thank you for everything you have done to advance the
cause of justice. No one could have done more—and no one ever has. We
love you and we will miss you.
