Robert B.E. Hallsor, Q.C., was reappointed as a member of the Saanich
Police Board for a term ending June 30, 2019.
After the Turks occupied Athens in 1456, they converted the Parthenon into
a mosque and the Erechtheion into a harem. The Erechtheion lies just on
the north side of the Acropolis.
Letters patent were issued to change the name of the Powell River Regional
District to the qathet Regional District.
Felicia A. Ciolfitto, John J. Greschner and Maureen G. Grant were
appointed as members of the board of governors of the Law Foundation of
British Columbia for terms of three years.
Helen Duncan, a Scottish medium whose clients reportedly included Winston
Churchill and George VI, was the last person imprisoned under the
Witchcraft Act of 1735. Apparently she had learned from the spirits and
revealed during World War II that two British battleships had sunk, though
the news had not yet been made public. She spent nine months in prison.
Churchill visited her in prison and later worked for the repeal of the statute,
which occurred in 1951.
The U.K. has just appointed yet another Lord Chancellor. He is David
Gauke, a solicitor and MP for South West Hertfordshire. He is the sixth Lord
Chancellor in as many years. The length of service of previous Lord Chancellors
for at least the previous 70 years was an average of four and a half
years. The trend has not done a service to the legal profession in the U.K.
or to justice.
