BC LAW INSTITUTE
By Thomas L. Spraggs*
This is my first contribution to the Advocate in my capacity as the chair of
the board of directors of the British Columbia Law Institute (“BCLI”). I
began my journey with the BCLI in May 2012 as an appointee of the Attorney
General of British Columbia. Since then I have had the privilege of serving
as treasurer and vice chair and of chairing the advisory committee for
the Project on Technology, Remoteness, Disability and Evidence that led to
a study paper in 2014 entitled “Technology-Assisted and Remote Evidence
Presentation: A Practice Resource for B.C. Lawyers”.
BCLI has an engaged board of directors. I am pleased to welcome back
Allard School of Law appointee Dr. Janis Sarra and member-at-large the
Honourable Marion J. Allan. At its September meeting the board also
appointed two members emeritus, each for a two-year term. Professors
Joost Blom, Q.C., and Robert Howell will continue to offer their experience
and academic expertise to committees of the board.
One of the great joys of being a member of the board is to observe the
commitment of our many project volunteers who bring their invaluable
experience and expertise to the committee meetings. Most recently, the
board approved the fourth consultation paper of the Strata Property Law
Project. I encourage readers interested in this issue to consider the recommendations
and provide their comments.
NEW CONSULTATION ON INSURANCE ISSUES FOR STRATAS
