NEW CONSULTATION PAPER ON GOVERNANCE ISSUES FOR STRATAS
In March 2018, BCLI issued its latest publication for the Strata Property Law
Project—Phase Two. The Consultation Paper on Governance Issues for Stratas
contains 83 tentative recommendations to reform the Strata Property Act,
the Strata Property Regulation and the standard bylaws applicable to strata
corporations. These tentative recommendations are open for public comment
until June 15, 2018.
Since 2013, BCLI has been at work on the Strata Property Law Project—
Phase Two. The goal of the project is to recommend changes to the law necessary
to support the next generation of strata property legislation in British
In carrying out the project, BCLI has the benefit of assistance from an
expert project committee. The committee is made up of 13 members who
are leaders in the strata property field. Committee members are drawn
from the ranks of the legal, notarial, real estate and strata management professions;
public officials; and owners’ organizations.
Previous publications in the project have examined termination of a strata
property and the laws applicable to sections, types and phases. With this publication,
the committee’s focus turns to strata corporation governance.
