Congratulations from CLEBC to the Advocate on your 75th anniversary!
As a fellow organization committed to sharing knowledge and information
within the B.C. legal profession, we wish the Advocate the very best and
extend our appreciation for the publication’s contributions to the legal community
since 1943. Thank you for providing B.C. lawyers with an ongoing
forum in which to share their thoughts, perspectives and submissions on
everything from developments in the law to current events, and even creative
writing and wine selections.
For decades, the Advocate has truly embodied its mandate to publish articles
“of interest to lawyers and in the lawyer’s interest”. By fostering open
discourse about the issues facing all of us at the bar, the Advocate has been
and continues to be an invaluable outlet and forum for exchange in our

UPDATE ON CLEBC’S TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION INITIATIVES
CLEBC continues to work on responding to call to action number 27 of the
Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (“TRC”) regarding legal
Since our last update, we are delighted to share with you the success and
circulation of our “But I Was Wearing a Suit” mini-documentary. Premiered
at the 2017 TRC Symposium, “But I Was Wearing a Suit” is a grassroots project
of a group of Indigenous lawyers, with the support of CLEBC and the
Law Society of B.C., that shares personal stories of more than a dozen
Indigenous lawyers who have experienced racism on the job.
