THE ADVOCATE 179
VOL. 76 PART 2 MARCH 2018
of the Vancouver Bar Association. When subjected to the rigorous crossexamination
of Ludmila during her interview for the position, Samantha
answered “George”, which is probably the correct answer. Samantha is a former
production manager of the McGill Tribune, the independent newspaper
of McGill University. We are excited that she is starting with us, what with
her knowledge of production deadlines and all.
The Honourable Jon Sigurdson, it should be noted, has not told us who his
favourite Beatle is because I haven’t asked him and Ludmila wasn’t at his
cross-examination/interview. Jon was our cover subject for the July 2016
issue of the magazine. Obviously a man ahead of his time, Jon was painted
standing in front of an Andy Warhol portrait of the Queen before her popularity
surged with the broadcast of the Netflix series The Crown. We think this
is probably a good omen for Jon’s post-judicial career. A founding member
of the lawyer band Surf Lawyers from Mars and the judicial band No
Reserves, Jon is the second member of the string section to the Advocate’s
in-house band … which hasn’t formed yet. I’ll have to let him know.
The entire 75-year history of the Advocate is at your fingertips, by the
way, through one of the subscription databases care of the Courthouse
Libraries website. If you can’t figure it out, phone one of the very helpful
staff at your local courthouse library and they will get you started. The
depth and breadth of the magazine are indeed impressive. The profession,
in my view, has been well served by the many people who have contributed
to the Advocate’s past success. It now is up to Ludmila, Peter, Jon, Samantha,
Connor, Lynda, Linda, David and me to see you well into the next 75 years.
Let us know what you think.
