CHÂTEAU DE LA ROCHE BOUSSEAU 2015
AOC Anjou Blanc, Loire Valley, France #421123 $20.99
This is one of the few French Chenins available in the LDB stores. The
grapes are planted on schist and limestone soil in the Saumur area. On the
nose it shows lime, green apple and green peach with some light floral
notes. The very dry and crisp palate displays the same with lychee and
some grassy notes. Great with spicy Asian food, rich seafood like prawns or
scallops (as it will cleanse the palate) or pasta with cream or mushroom
VINCENT RAIMBAULT BEL AIR VOUVRAY SEC 2015
AOC Vouvray, Loire Valley, France #127019 $22.99
Another of the limited selection of Loire Chenin in our LDB system, this
refreshing version has a sharp nose of lime, green peach and notes of honeysuckle.
Grapefruit on the finish. It has flavours of green apple and pear,
peach and chalky and that (in)famous wet wool on the medium length finish.
With just 11.5 per cent alcohol, and endowed with an unusual acid backbone
for the modern era, it should age well if given the chance but is very
drinkable now, giving drier German Riesling a run for its money. It will do
well as an aperitif wine, with starters, grilled fish, seafood and cheeses.
INNISKILLIN DISCOVERY SERIES CHENIN BLANC 2016
BC VQA Okanagan Valley #273573 $17.00 (average)
With grapes from the Oliver area, it has aromas of wet stone and lemon citrus
with some ginger and tropical fruit notes. The flavours are of lemon
lime, yellow peach and red apple and it has a ripe honeyed, but zesty finish.
Ideas for food include pork chops with apple or pear salsa, or sweet and
sour duck, or Thai dishes.
THE WILD OLIVE OLD VINES CHENIN BLANC 2017
WO Swartland, South Africa #205922 $12.29
The Wild Olive tree (olienhout) is an indigenous African tree that can grow
for thousands of years. The vines for this wine are old, but not that old. The
aromas are of lemon-lime, honeydew melon, gooseberry and sweet yellow
peach. It has flavours of lemon-lime, peach and apricot, some red apple and
a hint of tangerine and has a long and elegant finish. It is a great bargain.
Suggested pairings are light fare such as fish, shellfish, white meats and
