THE ADVOCATE 819 VOL. 75 PART 6 NOVEMBER 2017 tion of student employment in rural and small communities, among other issues. Prior to 2016, Bill’s most significant contribution was in the area of legislation and law reform, where he worked with committee members to respond to proposed government legislation and to conduct a user-based review of the civil rules of court implemented in 2010. His five years with this committee put him in a perfect position to develop the 2017 Agenda for Justice, the CBABC’s platform for discussion during the recent provincial election. Bill’s colleagues recognized his significant role in the CBABC with a Presidential Citation in 2009 and the President’s Medal in 2015, awarded to him by then-president of the CBABC, Alex Shorten (now Q.C.). Bill never stops contributing. He gets things done. You can always rely on him. He is supportive, insightful and willing to share that deep intelligence to help other people achieve their goals too. Recently, Bill not only contributed to the drafting of the new CBA national bylaws, but also dug deep into the financial structure of the CBA with a view to streamlining the funding mechanisms for all of the CBA’s good work. He will continue to provide solutions to our restructuring through the Funding Formula Task Force, which will examine the membership fee as well as funding allocations between centralized services and branch-level services to members. This challenge is one that Bill will no doubt wholeheartedly embrace and meet with great success. Bill’s priorities for the CBABC demand that the association looks at what members, and lawyers, need and want from their professional association and then deliver it. You can be sure that, just as he has done in the past, Bill will take a member-centric approach and ensure that the administrative structures supporting the organization enable staff and members to do the good work that the CBA is known for in B.C. and in Canada. t t t t t
