THE ADVOCATE 945 VOL. 75 PART 6 NOVEMBER 2017 We who acclaim again the advent of the “just society”, who witness the birth of another “new morality”, who bow before new “liberation” movements, who claim to live in uniquely enlightened, dangerous and changing times, we surely should find our message in the rumbling laughter of the great Augustan sage. “O brave we.” AN HISTORIC CONNECTION This brass plate set into the Middle Temple Table records a connection now established between The Lawyers’ Inn and London’s ancient Middle Temple. The venerable oak boards from which the table is made bear many marks of their centuries of service, including square holes left by hand-made iron spikes used to secure them to floor beams of the Middle Temple Hall in the reign of George II. t t t t t (Photograph by Deni Eagland)
