We saw two kingfishers, cormorants, herons, swans, ducks, two sparrow hawks and to top it all off we even saw a stoat chasing a rabbi.” Ruth Bader Ginsberg, one of the eight associate justices of the Supreme Court of the United States, has written a book entitled My Own Words. It is a series of her essays, writings and lectures beginning with a school newspaper editorial about the new United Nations Charter when she was 13. She is now 83 years old. The child of Russian Jewish immigrants, she was the second woman appointed to the Supreme Court, after Sandra Day O’Connor. There have been four women appointed in total over the years. Three of them are still sitting: Ginsberg, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor. Eric J. Mosley was appointed as a member of the board of North Island College for a term ending December 31, 2017. Michal Jaworski was appointed as a member of the board of Langara College for a term ending December 31, 2017. A court in Pennsylvania found as a fact that “the period from January to March or April (when spring fever sets in) is the most productive learning period in a September–June academic year”: Blackhawk School District v. Pennsylvania State Education Association, 1976 Pa. Dist. & Cnty. Dec. LEXIS 187. Advertising in a local newspaper, an Indian restaurant in York recently ran this campaign: “Let the old saying ‘love comes from the stomach’ be your motto this Valentine’s and spice up your Valentine with true authentic flavours of Indian cuisine. Bring this advert to claim a 15% discount on your bill all this month of February. Not available on 14th February.” Nigel P. Cave, Brenda M. Leong and Suzanne K. Wiltshire were reappointed as members of the British Columbia Securities Commission for terms ending December 31, 2018. Mr. Cave was designated as a vice chair and Ms. Leong was designated as chair and chief executive officer. Kevin R. Smith was reappointed as a member of the board of the University of British Columbia for a term ending December 31, 2018.
