THE 2016–17 COMPETITIVE MOOT SEASON RESULTS
Many students and alumni tell us that one of the most memorable aspects
of their law school experience is taking part in competitive moots. As one
student who took part this year said, it was “the single most positive and
worthwhile experience I have had in law school.” Competitive moots are
also one of the great touchpoints the law school has with our community,
as many alumni and local legal professionals contribute by supporting our
students as advisors and coaches, moot court judges and financial donors.
This year we had numerous notable performances. The team representing
the Allard School of Law in the B.C. Law Schools Moot placed first,
ensuring the Begbie Trophy remains in Allard Hall. Jennifer Horton took
the prize for best oralist at the Bowman National Tax Moot, and Andrew
Kavanagh was ranked as one of the strongest oralists in the Laskin Moot.
Based on the written qualifying rounds, a team from the Allard School of
Law was selected to fly to Sydney, Australia to compete in the Ian Fletcher
International Insolvency Law Moot and made it to the semi-finals.
We are pleased to present a complete list of the 2016–17 competitive
moots in which students from the Allard School of Law participated. As
always, thank you to our generous donors and our many advisors and
