$250,000 for non-economic damages (i.e., pain and suffering). The objective

Analyzing copyright renewal rights associated with the Superman comic
strip, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York noted in
Siegel v. National Periodical Publications, Inc., 364 F. Supp. 1032 (1973):
“Although Clark Kent, generally known as Superman, is happily capable of
solving all problems without going to court, his creators and exploiters,
mere mortals like the rest of us, are not so fortunate”.
Senator Elizabeth Warren, the senior senator from Massachusetts, a Democrat,
has written another book. Senator Warren spent 30 years teaching law
before she was elected a senator in November 2012, 20 of them at Harvard
Law School. She has written ten books. The latest, This Fight Is Our Fight,
contains depressing anecdotes about the way in which America’s most
trusted institutions have let the community down. Her main targets are the
American banks. The New York Times contends that her book is informed by
a thorough understanding of how dysfunctional Washington now is. The
senator criticizes not only American banks but also targets Wal-mart, forprofit
education companies, the Chamber of Commerce and think tanks for
their undisclosed conflicts of interest. She is also critical of the regulatory
agencies, which, she contends, are now seriously influenced by big money
and are not functioning as they should.
The Lawyer Show 2017 took place between May 4 and 7, 2017 at the Waterfront Theatre
on Granville Island. The show, Grease, was a tremendous success and smashed
the box office record, selling out one week before the show opened. Great thanks to
all who came to see The Lawyer Show; all the cast, crew and creative team; and the
amazing sponsors and volunteers that made this fundraising event such a success. In
total, the cast and band put in a combined 3,287 volunteer hours and the show raised
over $93,500 for Carousel Theatre for Young People and Touchstone Theatre. This
contribution will help support the production and community outreach activities of
these two local, non-profit theatre companies. The 2017 Fasken Martineau Shining
Star Award was given to two cast members, Alexandra Mitretodis and Stephen P.
Robertson, in recognition of their contribution and tremendous dedication to The
Lawyer Show over the years. Long-time Touchstone artistic director Katrina Dunn
was presented with The Raise the Bar Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions
to the Vancouver legal community through her leadership of The Lawyer
Show and Touchstone Training.
