From overseas, Michael Blanchflower, S.C. reports that after 31 years practising
criminal law in Hong Kong with the Department of Justice and in private
practice, he is returning to the west coast to reside on Salt Spring.
James Killam, Q.C., has retired after 39.6 years of practice. He reports that,
but for CPD, he would have made 40 years.
After seven years serving as an associate professor at the College of Law at
the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, John Kleefeld was recently
appointed as the dean of law at the University of New Brunswick. Despite
this increase in distance, Professor Kleefeld remains a member of the Law
Society of British Columbia.
The University of Baltimore announced in 2014 that it would be offering a
new course that “will scrutinize the intricately plotted world of Marvel
films—the Iron Man, Thor and Captain America series, characters from the
Avengers, and now the Guardians of the Galaxy movie … The course, ‘Media
Genres: Media Marvels,’ will examine how Marvel’s series of interconnected
films and television shows, plus related media and comic book sources and
Joseph Campbell’s monomyth of the ‘hero’s journey,’ offer important
insights into modern culture. The course is believed to be the first of its
kind in the country.”
After 42 years on three different courts, the last 17 as a justice of the B.C.
Supreme Court, the Honourable I. Bruce Josephson retired in April 2017
and has joined Hira Rowan to start a mediation, arbitration and consultation
