SOCIETIES ACT Looking back on 2016, one of the most significant legal changes in British Columbia was the new Societies Act and Societies Regulation coming into force. The new Societies Act replaced the old Society Act on November 28, 2016 and made major changes to the incorporation, governance and ongoing operations of thousands of societies in B.C. Currently registered societies have two years (deadline: November 28, 2018) to transition to compliance under the new legislation.
