We would have been fooled in an unlabelled tasting, because it looks like Viognier in the glass and tasted more like a Marsanne/Roussanne blend rather than a Sauvignon Blanc. It has notes of pears, lemons and asparagus in the mouth. It is also a great food wine that would be perfect with halibut or sole if the fish was pan-fried in a sea of butter. But maybe any wine would go well with that. PRUNOTTO BARBARESCO 2011 Everything Wine $50 Prunotto is an excellent producer located just outside Alba. This is its entrylevel Barbaresco but it is still a wine of considerable depth and complexity. It exhibits lovely and perfumed aromas of cherry and flowers and the flavours are of ripe berry and spice. It is still young and should probably be cellared for a couple more years before drinking. This wine would be a perfect match for Brasato al Vino Rosso (beef braised in red wine). DAMILANO ARNEIS LANGHE 2014 Everything Wine $25 This wine is made simply to retain its freshness. It is fermented in stainless steel and then spends about four months there and a month in bottle before being released. It is made from 100 per cent Arneis and is delicate and refreshing from start to finish. The flavours evoke citrus, pear and peach with just a touch of minerality. This wine is a perfect match for grilled white fish and chicken. LA SPINETTA CA’ DI PIAN BARBERA D’ASTI 2011 Kitsilano Wine Store $25 Every wine tasting has its disappointments and this was ours. The wine is deep ruby in colour. The smell in the glass is of plums and permanent marker. Very dry. There are notes of blackberry and tar in the mouth. The aftertaste is a bit bitter. This needs time; right now, it would pair well with Tylenol. t t t t t
