The park was named after one of Major Goldman’s children, Commander Victor Robert Penryn Monck of the Royal Navy. Of course, this park is a reminder that even apart from its judicial history, the Nicola Valley is well worth seeing. Apart from Nicola Lake and other elements of natural beauty, its landmarks include the splendid Quilchena Hotel built in 1908 and now run by the Douglas Lake Ranch. Even older than that, the Murray United Church, back on the Nicola Ranch, was built in 1876; if lucky, you might encounter there welcoming volunteers doing repairs and willing to provide an enthusiastic tour. The church is just across the parking lot from the Nicola courthouse, with the gift shop in between. MURRAY UNITED CHURCH NICOLA LAKE QUILCHENA
